Frequently Asked Questions
Entering therapy can bring up a lot of questions or concerns. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about the process.
What is a first therapy appointment like? What should I expect?
Your first appointment with me will involve both of us getting to know each other, probably shuffling through a bit of boring (but necessary) paperwork and then beginning to explore what brought you to therapy in the first place. You can expect that the first session will be a fair bit of information gathering and beginning to chart a course of treatment. You don’t have to come in knowing exactly what you want or need. Just showing up to the session means that there is something that doesn’t feeling quite right and could do with some adjusting. We’ll start and build from there.
How long are the sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes long unless otherwise agreed upon in advance.
How much do sessions cost?
I am only in network with BlueCross BlueShield PPO plans. I am not in-network with any HMO plans. What if i don’t have insurance?
I also accept cash, credit/debit and check as well as HSAs.
Do you offer flexible payments?
Yes. I have a limited number of sliding scale slots that become available occasionally.
What if I already have a therapist and I just want to do EMDR?
That’s totally fine. If you have a primary therapist you would like to keep seeing I can provide the EMDR while you continue your work.
is my information confidential?
Confidentiality is a part of all psychotherapist’s code of ethics and I take that code very seriously. I know that to do your best work in therapy you need a safe space wherein you can talk about anything without being afraid that it will get back to anyone else. So, what’s said in the room stays in the room.
How long do people usually stay in therapy?
The length of time that a person stays in therapy varies. For some folks a few sessions is sufficient to work out a solution to a problem. For others, more time is necessary to work through longstanding issues. Really it comes down to how you and I see your progress going. It’s a collaboration, but you’re the one in the driver’s seat.
What type of therapy do you provide?
I provide individual counseling to adults (18+). My approach to therapy is eclectic and I draw from many different modalities such as Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I approach all of my work with special attention on attachment and attachment patterns. What the heck does that mean? It means we will build an authentic therapeutic relationship together. I will tailor intervention to meet your specific needs. We’ll frequently check in and adjust our course as needed.
Do you offer flexible scheduling?
Yes. I have daytime, evening and weekend hours available.
